Woody Head Wonders: A Brief but Blissful Coastal Escape

Sometimes the stars align, and you manage to snag a coveted camping spot at just the right moment. That's exactly what happened with our recent trip to Woody Head, a mere 90-minute drive south of home.

This trip marked a special milestone - the maiden voyage of my mountain bike! I took it for a spin on the trails to Iluka and back, and let me tell you, it was a ride to remember. The trails were a perfect mix of challenge and scenic beauty, leaving me eager for more two-wheeled adventures.

The old Post Office?
Now, I have to confess - we were so caught up in the moment that the phone stayed tucked away for most of the trip. While this means fewer photos to share (sorry about that!), it also meant we were truly present, soaking in every moment of our coastal getaway. Don't worry though, we'll be back to Woody Head soon enough, and I promise a more photo-heavy post next time!

One intriguing discovery was an old shed by the boat ramp. A weathered sign suggests it once served as a post office back in 1973. It's these little snippets of history that add such character to a place, don't you think?

It was heartening to see coastline and dune restoration efforts in progress. It's a reminder of how fragile these ecosystems can be and the importance of preservation.

Mother Nature blessed us with a day of perfect sunshine and a crystal-clear night before deciding to shake things up. Sensing the change in the air, we made the call to pack up early, wary of the impending downpour. And boy, did that decision pay off! We hit the road at 8:30 am, and the heavens opened at 9:00. There's a lot to be said for a dry pack-up!

While our stay at Woody Head was brief, it was filled with simple pleasures - bike rides, coastal views, and the satisfaction of outsmarting the weather. It just goes to show that sometimes, the best adventures are the ones that leave you wanting more.

Until next time, happy travels!
