Feeling strong: Hiking the Main Gorge Track, Carnarvon Gorge Day 2

Feeling strong, we pressed on from the previous stop , forging our path to Big Bend along the main gorge track, extending beyond the amphitheater’s embrace, and eventually arrived at the Art Gallery. Words fall short when trying to describe the profound sensation of witnessing this timeless, yet ever-living culture.

We felt the resonance of time in ochre stencils, engravings, and freehand paintings gracing the rugged sandstone walls.

Engravings etched with care onto the rugged sandstone echoed with the voices of ancestors, passing down their knowledge across generations.

The further we hiked, the taller the sandstone walls became: Approaching Big Bend

We pressed on to Big Bend Camping Area, a welcome retreat from the heat in summer The camping area lies beside a natural pool in an elbow of the gorge, with sweeping sandstone walls as a perfect backdrop. We were not staying here though, and after a break to eat and drink we began the trek back via Boowinda Gorge, the Cathedral, and the slightly off trail Reflection Pool.

The pool at Big Bend, approx. 12km from the Ranger station. It was here that we lunched before returning.
