The toil of the workday behind us, we embarked on a northbound drive. Our initial plan was to make a two-hour journey to Toowoomba, but a sense of adventure compelled us to push forward into the darkness. After refuelling at Dalby, we found ourselves pressing on to Chinchilla.
By the stroke of ten in the evening, we arrived at what appeared to be a mere car park and public restroom. With weariness setting in, we sought refuge in the back of our vehicle for a brief repose. Little did we know that we had chosen the local skate park, tucked away between the rowdy pub and the golden arches of McDonald’s. Had we ventured another 40 kilometres, a picturesque riverside campsite, shared by fellow travellers, awaited our discovery. Life, it seems, teaches us in its own peculiar way.
As the sun illuminated the next morning, we proceeded towards Roma. With a full tank and a yearning for a cup of coffee—The Tasting Co—we continued our expedition to Injune. This small town would serve as our final fuel stop for the next 300 kilometers. A quick top-up of petrol ensued, accompanied by an entirely unmemorable cup of coffee near the visitor information center.
In the shadows of unexpected places, life’s lessons and hidden gems await the intrepid traveler. Our trajectory then took us to the majestic Carnarvon Gorge, where we had thoughtfully secured a campsite at the splendid Sandstone facility
