Coastal Delights and Rainy Retreats: A Weekend Journey to Sawtell with the Trusty Wotpod

In our usual pursuit of weekend escapades, we embarked on yet another adventure, a journey to Sawtell with the trusty teardrop. As the workweek drew to a close, we diligently prepared for our journey. Thursday evening was dedicated to charging the lithium-ion battery, ensuring the fridge was powered by the mains to cool down, and organizing our provisions of food and wine. On our way home from work, we made a stop to fuel up our Mazda CX3, readying it for the road ahead.

Friday morning arrived, and we wasted no time tossing our camping attire into the Wotpod. With the sunrise, we set off, parking our vehicle in a sun-soaked spot at work, strategically positioning it to bask in the sun’s rays and keep the fridge running all day, sans any battery drainage.

At precisely 3:15 pm, we departed our workplace and embarked on a three-hour southbound journey to the expansive Big Four Caravan Park in Sawtell. The darkness of the evening greeted our arrival, but undeterred, we settled into the unpowered camping overflow, revelling in the ample space we had all to ourselves.

A Scenic Path Unveiled: Exploring the Headland and Savouring Coffee at Sawtell Surf Club

Saturday morning beckoned with promises of coastal exploration. We embarked on a captivating walk along the headland, taking in the awe-inspiring views of the rugged cliffs and the vast expanse of the ocean. A stroll along the sandy shores followed, and we treated ourselves to a steaming cup of coffee at the Sawtell Surf Club. Seated with a panoramic backdrop of the shimmering blue ocean, we were lucky enough to witness a few majestic whales gracefully making their way north to warmer waters for breeding. With spirits lifted, we returned to our campsite to enjoy a leisurely lunch, engaging in conversation and delving into our favourite reads. As the sun began to set, we ventured to the local pub, eager to relish an evening filled with laughter, delightful food, and the company of our grown-up children.

Sunday arrived, but alas, so did the rain. Showers cascaded from the south, enshrouding the town in a damp mist. The atmosphere grew darker, and the gutters struggled to contain the excess water. Our adult children bid their farewells, packing up their vans and departing. Meanwhile, we sought refuge within the shelter of our add-on tent, finding solace in the warmth and comfort as we immersed ourselves in books and kept dry from the relentless downpour.

Unrelenting Rainfall: A Sunday Soaked in Heavy Downpours

As the clock struck 5 pm, an oasis beckoned us through the torrential rain—the Sawtell Indian Restaurant, a mere 600 meters away. Braving the elements, we navigated the cold stormy weather and found ourselves enveloped in the cosy ambiance of the eatery. The tantalizing aroma of homecooked Indian cuisine welcomed us, and our taste buds were rewarded with a medley of flavours. The establishment boasted a commendable wine list, further enhancing our dining experience. By 7 pm, contented and satisfied, we retraced our steps back to our campsite. Settling into our cosy abode, we snuggled under the covers, revelling in the warmth that embraced us.

Embracing the Elements: A Darker, Colder, and Wetter Day

Monday dawned clear and dry, facilitating our departure preparations. A brief detour into town led us to a delightful coffee shop, where we indulged in our favourite brew. Energized and ready for more, we continued our journey to Coffs Harbour, where the inviting waters of the memorial pool awaited us, beckoning us for a refreshing swim. Satisfied and invigorated, we ventured to the renowned Emerald café, known for its divine coffee and delectable brownies. With our bellies content and our hearts full, we embarked on the final leg of our journey, a two-hour drive up the freeway, eventually arriving back home.
