Narrabri: A nice campground in town, perfect for a quick reset! We took advantage of the laundry, hung our clothes to dry, stocked up at the supermarket, refueled, and grabbed some extra supplies, like tent fixings. After days of hiking, it felt great to shower again. We’d hoped for a swim to stretch out, but unfortunately, the pool was closed due to a burst pipe. However, we found excellent coffee at Yield, a shop stocked with Yeti products.
The campground caretaker suggested a visit to the Pilliga Hot Springs, so after checking out the Australia Telescope and Lake Yarrie’s meteor crater, we headed there. The springs were relaxing, free, and a perfect spot for free camping! Our route took us to the hot springs, the Barradine Information Centre, and then 45 km deep into the Pilliga to see the Sculptures in the Scrub. Though we’d planned for a few nights, the flies and dust encouraged us to cut it short to just one. Road closures redirected us east to Pilliga Pottery for the night, a beautiful spot with a restaurant, showers, toilets, and fantastic walking trails.
