A Weekend Getaway to Grassy Head means leaving early as possible on friday because of the 300 km 3.5 hour drive south. So everything needs to be packed and ready Thursday night which will enable a timely departure for work on Friday morning.

Friday afternoon, leave work at 15:20, drive south 300 km, eating along the way. Shared driving is essential here. We arrived at Grassy Head at 18:50, a total of three and a half hours of driving. In August, this meant arriving at a new campground in the dark. A helpful family was awaiting to guide us to our spot, where we unpacked and rolled out the awnings, then got wine from the fridge and enjoyed good company until retiring to the teardrop for the evening.
The weekend getaway to Grassy Head really began on Saturday morning. An early swim in the crystal clear somewhat warm water followed by breakfast and coffee at the trailer. Then a headland walk reminiscent of a trip to the Greek Isles. Another swim followed lunch and then began preparations for the evening meal..
Evening was spent with family around the kings firepit, listening to the FIFA World Cup via a slow stream on the poor phone reception. This was followed by a short walk to the beach to enjoy the dark sky and the moonless night. I set up the phone on my tripod and took a few shots. I’m happy with the results.
Next morning, a walk around the headland. The sound of Black Cockatoos whirling above in large flocks, the insects and native bees pollinating early spring acacias, the smell of salt carried on the gentle breeze. Grassy Head is the perfect camping spot for nature lovers.
As the day drew to a close we tidied the campsite in preparation for our departure on Monday morning. A fantastic weekend at Grassy Head ending with a stop for coffee at My Mates Place Coffs Harbour
60 nights
