Things to do on a short stay in Yamba NSW
Friday morning, and it’s holiday time. There is no need to leave home early as we can’t park the teardrop at the campground until 11:00am and we are not there for long anyway. Breakfast, pack some clothes and swimwear and running gear into the teardrop and drive 90 mins south to the Calypso Caravan Park where we check in and unpack the teardrop for our short stay in Yamba. First up on arrival is to always check our orientation using our excellent sun locator app. The app helps show us where shade may be an issue, especially when relying on solar to keep the battery charged and the fridge cold. we then put out the awnings and annexe, unfold the chairs, get the kitchen sorted and walk into town for a coffee at Yum Yum Cafe at about midday.
Then back to the teardrop and read a bit, before an afternoon walk on the break wall as the tide ebbed and the boats went out for the night. The walk here is beautiful and not to be missed. We lit the fire in our self contained portable fireplace, grilled up a meal, then went to bed as dusk ended.
Saturday morning, cool and dry, a fine day indeed. After a run up along the break wall and back through the park we enjoyed breakfast in the sun. Excitement was building as we walked once again through town and chatted with Meredith at Kitchen to Table about business, travel and life in general. We also purchased an amazingly efficient cup for the morning brew. Its the Fressko Bino cup. Check it out here. The cup stays hot for up to 3 hours, is easy to clean and stays cool to the touch. Not long now until our reservation at the fabulous El Ocaso.
Dinner at the fantastic El Ocaso. What can I say. the reviews are correct. Beautiful food, from fresh local produce in an Italian style….modern Australian. Never disappointed here. Find them here and make sure you book. We had been here on an earlier trip to Yamba. A quick walk home is a feature of a short stay at Yamba. Its a treat for us. Where we live and work there is nowhere we can go out and simply walk home.
After 2 nights, we packed on the Sunday morning and drove 90 mins Northward to home. A short stay in Yamba, a weekend getaway, achievable and very comfortable. Try it for yourself.
