The Big Day...First Trip

Supermarket pre work to fill fridge.
Cold Wet and Windy for our first night.

The Day has arrived for the first trip.

The sky was bright blue and the sun was warm. The day held the promise of a wonderful first night away at Iluka. Weather however is subject to change…..

After work we cruised south along the freeway at a leisurely 95kmh, into the rain. By the time we had parked and put up the annex and its four walls, the both of us were wet and cold.

After a dry cosy night inside the pod, we woke to a fine day. This was the dream, now for coffee. T had thoughtfully brought the Nespresso pod machine with us, because we knew we had a powered site. Just plug and play and coffee is ready right? Umm, well, we needed a 15 amp extension lead to plug in, I had only brought a 10 amp. This was not going to work. Luckily I had the foresight to bring a Bialetti Mocha pot, (caffeine extraction on the gas cooker). Simple. Pull out the stove on its new sliding rail, grab the gas hose, and plug it into the plug and play swap and go gas bottle. Hmm, this was not going well. I had (quite reasonably) thought that all gas fittings were universal. We have usb that plugs in anywhere, why not gas hoses?

After searching around town, (the bait shop, the camping supply store, and even the supermarket), we then decided to make the 50 minute round trip to Maclean. One shop, one stop. Maclean Outdoors. We purchased the 15 amp lead (on sale) and had the gas adapter in our hand for less than the price of a coffee.

25 mins later, caffeine running through my veins, and the sunshine breaking through, life was looking good.

The day finished watching the colours change on the river, from the warmth of our dry annexe. Bring on trip 002

*tips for the newbies. Try staying home and doing a dry run, Light the stove, cook a meal, make some coffee, Iron out the bugs at home.
